RICHARD SALAS (USA)

RICHARD SALAS is a California native and graduate from Brooks Institute of Photography, where he was mentored by Ernest Brooks II and first introduced to diving and underwater photography. Richard has worked professionally in digital media for over twenty-four years and his unique approach to bringing out the texture and depth of his underwater subjects is informed by years of experience in lighting products and people.
He has authored three books of photography, including Sea of Light - Underwater Photography of California’s Channel Islands; Blue Visions - Underwater Photography from the Mexican Border to the Equator; and Luminous Sea -Underwater Photography from Washington to Alaska. Richard’s mission is to take the viewer through a marine biosphere where humanity’s impact is an undeniable force.

While many new endemic species are discovered every year, others have disappeared from it completely. The striking power of Richard’s images radiates the light of unique vitality that resides in every organism he encounters. His photography clearly reflects his strong advocacy for the sea and its inhabitants. Richard teaches underwater photography on photo excursions in Alaska, Canada, California, Mexico, and Cuba, offering students personalized, one-on-one instruction.

리차드 살라스(RICHARD SALAS)는 캘리포니아주 출신으로 브룩스 인스티튜트 사진 연구소(Brooks Institute of Photography)를 졸업하고, 어니스트 브룩스 II(Ernest Brooks II)의 지도를 받았으며 다이빙과 수중촬영분야에서는 처음 소개하게 되었다. Richard는 24년이 넘는 기간 동안 디지털 미디어 분야를 전문적으로 연구했으며 수년간의 경험을 토대로 인공조명을 활용하여 수중촬영에서 질감의 차이와 깊이를 아름답게 표현할 수 있는 독창적인 기법을 표현하고 있다.
그는 다음과 같은 사진에 관한 서적 3권을 저술했다. Sea of Light - Underwater Photography of California’s Channel Islands; Blue Visions - Underwater Photography of California's Channel Islands; Luminous Sea - Underwater Photography from Washington to Alaska.
리차드가 원하는 것은 아름다운 수중세계와 해양생물환경을 사진으로 제대로 표현하여 알려주는 것이다. 매년 다양하고 새로운 고유종이 발견되기도 하지만 다른 한편으로는 멸종되어 가는 종들도 존재한다. 리처드가 촬영한 수중사진의 이미지들은 모든 생물체가 자신만의 매력이 돋보일 수 생명력을 불어 넣어 빛이 나게 한다. 그의 사진을 보면 바다에서 사는 해양생물의 생태와 특징을 제대로 보여주고 있다. 리차드는 알래스카, 캐나다, 캘리포니아, 멕시코, 쿠바 등의 사진여행을 하면서 수중사진을 가르치며 학생들에게 1:1 개인별 지도도 한다.
